Bellevue, Nebraska, in Sarpy county, is 8 miles S of Omaha, Nebraska. The city benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns that it shares the Omaha metropolitan area with. The community began in 1822, when Joshua Pilcher of the Missouri Fur Company built a fur trading post in the area. The post later came to be known as Fontenelle’s Post, and was later purchased by Lucien Fontenelle in 1828. Early French Canadian trappers named the town Bellevue because of its picturesque beauty. Bellevue housed the Strategic Air Command’s headquarters shortly after the Second World War. While at Belleview, one can visit museums like the RailsWest Railroad Museum, the Sarpy County Museum, the General Crook House Museum and the Omaha Children’s Museum.
